Chambelli — jasmine — is the flower of Pakistan. It garlands the hair of brides, perfumes the evening air of Lahore's old city, and blooms in the courtyards of havelis across the Punjab. At dusk, when the heat of the day softens and the night-flowering jasmine opens, the scent is intoxicating — sweet, heady and deeply familiar to anyone who has spent an evening in the subcontinent. This candle was made to hold that moment.

The crucial first burn: to get the most from your candle, let the first burn melt the wax right across to the edge of the vessel. This avoids a memory ring and tunnelling.

Wick care: always trim the wick to 5mm before lighting, and keep the wax pool free of debris, wick trimmings or matches, which can make the flame burn unevenly.

Where to burn it: choose a well-ventilated room away from draughts, vents or fans. This keeps the flame steady and stops black soot marks forming on the glass.

Putting it out: I recommend a candle snuffer or wick dipper. It reduces smoke and avoids splashing hot wax.

Storage: keep your candle lidded in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight to protect the fragrance oils and prevent discolouration.
