Expand Your Knowledge with Fun and Interactive TV Quizzes.
When you hear the word 'Gaming', many of us immediately think about video games & screens, but there's also a different type of gaming, which comes in the form of TV quizzes. Monday evenings from 7.30-9pm, my boys, (including hubby) and I, are glued to the tv, not because we are binging on a box set but because its an evening of quiz shows, in which we all compete with one another. Starting with Mastermind and ending with University challenge. Doing these quizzes has enabled us to pick up some general knowledge, although admittedly I zone out with University challenge as that's beyond me.
Immerse in Cultural Learning with Our Trivial Pursuit Quiz!
Sikhana, which means to educate in Urdu, is all about educating creatively, using lifestyle products, each of which comes with a story for the adults & events themed around enlightening minds. Last month I organised an event to celebrate the Independence Day for Pakistan, it's an annual event I have been doing for the last 3 years. Over the last two years, my boys and I have started to do a Cultural Trivial Pursuit Quiz on Pakistan. The purpose of doing this quiz was because I wanted to use the event to educate people, particularly children, about the history, geography, politics, sports & entertainment industry of Pakistan and for me just having live music and food was not enough. It also meant that this way the children got involved & everyone would walk away from the event, having had fun, as it gets fiercely competitive. I have shared the link for the quiz, have a go and let me know what you think of it.
The need to do this became imperative as in August we also saw some of the worse racist riots seen on the street in decades,. Many were anti-immigrants and sadly also anti-muslim. It did depress me as during those days I felt that decades on things haven't changed for my boys, until on the Wednesday of that week, thousands of British people took to the streets to protest against the rioters, which re-instilled faith there are more people wanting a diverse and inclusive society than not.
It did however get me thinking that often the cause of racism is ignorance. Ignorant minds provide easy fodder for those people who like to use their influence irresponsibly, such as the likes of Andrew Tate & Nigel Farage, who in my opinion have a part to play in the riots seen in August 2024. It also forced me to have a think about what could Sikhana, a brand committed to remove ignorance, do to help children.
Off the back of the success of the quizzes and the riots, my youngest son and I designed our first activity workbook themed around educating children about the culture, geography, food & history about Pakistan. Years of going through 11 plus workbooks with my boys came in handy as we adopted a variety of crossword, fill in the blanks and scrambled letters to help develop these books. I tasked my son to help because I wanted him to use his time productively to learn about Pakistan but also to ensure that it was pitched at the right level.
At present as a means to be sustainable it is only available as a downloadable copy, however if there is enough demand and feedback suggests you'd rather have these as printable copies, I will look to provide a hardcopy.
Racism comes from ignorance so the best gift we can give society is one of knowledge and education, when you have a culturally educated society, it makes it harder for predators who seek to cause racial differences for their personal gain.
