Why is it so important for me?
I have been fortunate because I have had the pleasure of studying in 3 different countries, one of which was Pakistan from the ages of 16 - 19. Whilst in Pakistan I had to study Pakistan studies, which was a compulsory subject. When studying it, it was the first time I discovered the country's history, the trial and tribulations endured for its existence. Had I not lived in Pakistan, I would never have learned about it. I don't blame my parents for not teaching me, as I think it was perhaps an oversight by them, as it is for so many first generation Pakistani's, who don't value the knowledge they hold & its significance to share with their children.
For the last 3 years I have started to make a day of it not only to engage the Pakistani youth so they try and understand its importance and history but also as a platform to bring communities together and celebrate the enrichment the Pakistani culture brings to the UK, as well as an opportunity to bring communities together to engage in dialogue.
Why is it important for our children to understand the significance of Pakistan Independence Day?
