Some recipes are not written down. They are passed from hand to hand, from mother to daughter, across generations and continents.

Aneela's Kheer and Sheer Khurma Mixes are the result of one woman's determination to preserve the authentic flavours of her Pakistani kitchen — and share them with the world. Crafted in Peshawar by a talented female home chef, each 160g kit contains everything you need to make two of Pakistan's most beloved desserts, exactly as they have been made for generations.

Kheer — The Dessert of Celebration

Silky, fragrant rice pudding enriched with green cardamom, crushed almonds and pistachios. Served cold in silver bowls at weddings, Eid gatherings, and every occasion that calls for something truly special. Kheer has been made in South Asian kitchens for thousands of years — its origins trace back to ancient Sanskrit texts and the royal kitchens of the Mughal empire. The recipe has barely changed. The love that goes into it never has.

Sheer Khurma — The Taste of Eid Morning

Sheer Khurma — literally milk with dates in Persian — is the dish every Pakistani family makes on the morning of Eid ul-Fitr. Golden vermicelli simmered in rich full-fat milk, sweetened with sugar, enriched with crushed almonds, coconut, walnuts and the warm perfume of cardamom. It is the first thing eaten after a month of fasting. It is shared with neighbours, brought to elderly relatives, pressed into the hands of anyone who visits. It is, in the truest sense, a dish made of generosity.

How to Make It

  1. Boil one litre of full-fat milk on a medium flame
  2. Slowly add the full contents of your Aneela's packet
  3. Cook for 20 minutes, stirring gently and continuously
  4. Pour into a serving bowl, allow to cool, and serve cold
  5. Garnish with extra crushed pistachios, saffron strands, and rose petals

Serves 4 - 6 people. Ready in just 20 minutes.

A Note on Pairing

At Sikhana, we believe that scent and taste are inseparable parts of the same experience. When you serve kheer, light a Chambelli Ka Phool votive candle nearby — the jasmine and honeysuckle will echo the floral notes from a garden in Pakistan, creating an atmosphere that feels, unmistakably, like a Pakistani celebration. For sheer khurma, try our Punjab Da Gulab votive — the tuberose and orange leave notes are the perfect olfactory companion to the sweetness of the vermicelli.

Because the finest moments are always felt in more than one sense.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Kheer and Sheer Khurma?

Kheer is a silky rice pudding — delicate, creamy and fragrant with cardamom. Sheer Khurma is a richer, more festive dessert made with golden vermicelli, nuts and coconut — traditionally served on Eid morning. Both are beloved across Pakistan and South Asia.

Is this a good gift for Eid?

Absolutely. Sheer Khurma is the quintessential Eid dessert — gifting this mix is a beautiful way to share the tradition of Eid morning with friends and family, whether they are familiar with South Asian culture or discovering it for the first time.

Is this suitable for vegetarians?

Yes, both the Kheer Mix and Sheer Khurma Mix are suitable for vegetarians. They contain no meat or fish products.

Doest this product contain gluten?

The Sheer Khurma Mix contains vermicelli which may contain gluten. The Kheer Mix is rice powder based. If you have a gluten intolerance please check with us before ordering.

What allergens does this product contain?

Both mixes contain tree nuts including almonds, pistachios, walnuts and coconut. May contain traces of other nuts. Not suitable for those with nut allergies.

Can I use plant-based milk?

Full-fat dairy milk gives the best results for a rich, creamy texture. Oat milk or coconut milk can be used as alternatives but the consistency and flavour will differ.

What is the shelf life of the mix?

Please refer to the best before date printed on the packet. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Typically it has a BBE date of 12 months from when the mix is made.

Can I make it in advance?

Yes — both desserts are best served cold and can be made up to 24 hours in advance. Store covered in the refrigerator.

How long does it take to make?

Just 20 minutes from start to finish. Boil the milk, add the packet, stir for 20 minutes, cool and serve

What Sikhana candle pairs well with this?

I recommend lighting a Chambelli Ka Phool votive candle while making kheer — the jasmine and cardamom notes create a beautifully immersive Pakistani kitchen atmosphere. For sheer khurma, our Punjab Da Gulab votive is the perfect companion.
