 Scent: The Story

The Walled City of Lahore  also known as Old City, forms the historic core of Lahore, Pakistan. The city was established around 1000 CE in the western half of the Walled City, which was fortified by a mud wall during the medieval era. The Walled City was home too numerous monuments during the Mughal era, with some of Lahore’s most iconic structures being located in the Walled City, such as the lavishly decorated Wazir Khan Mosque, the massive Badshahi Mosque, and the Shahi Hammam.

This scent has been inspired by the history behind the Walled City of Lahore.

If you were a young woman from an affluent family in early 20th Century Lahore, chances are that you would get a special gift from your father at your wedding.

It was a must for any rich family residing in the Walled City 50 to 100 years ago to gift a box containing six scents to the bride, unmarried girls did not wear perfume. But at weddings, it was customary for the father or a senior family member to gift a traditional perfume box to the daughter.

The most common scents were rose, aloe wood, sandal, jasmine, amber and mustard, but varied according to one’s means. “Richer families tended to buy more amber scents than jasmine. Amber is pricier as it’s harder to extract, whereas jasmine is abundant across Lahore.

Sadly this tradition has died but this Luxury Rose Scented Collection has been developed in dedication of this tradition.

The packaging design has taken inspiration from the architecture that can be found in the Walled City, much of it was influenced by the Moghuls and Islamic art and has been developed with a local graphic designer  in the UK, NIda Zuberi, whose a graduate from the renowned Indus institute in Karachi.

Scent: Luxury Red Rose

This scented candle is made up of Paraffin wax with a burn time of around 15 - 35 hours, depending on what size you choose.

The Candle comes packaged in a luxury rigid black gift box, with foil labels, which have pearl embellishments, all stuck by hand.

Since these are made by hand, if you prefer I can make this as a Soya wax, however my default preference for Paraffin is because it gives a stronger scent throw.
